Answer: If we move the comma in the passage above just one word forward from before the word: “today” to after the word: “today” then the sentence reads as follows: “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee today, shalt thou be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43 (adapted)
The problem is: It does not matter which Bible translation we read, it remains a translation.
However, we cannot change the Bible, and since there were no punctuation marks in the original text, we also do not know where the comma should be. The Bible must explain itself.
Jesus was crucified on the Friday. He was resurrected on the Sunday. (Luke 23:54 – 24:1)
Look at what we now read in John regarding the Sunday morning after His resurrection: On the Sunday morning Jesus said to Mary:
“…Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father...” John 20:17.
Jesus was therefore still on earth on Sunday morning and had not yet ascended to His Father. So could He have been in heaven with the man on the other cross on Friday? No, definitely not. So where does the comma need to be for the rest of the Bible to make sense?
Note again that the punctuation marks in the Bible were not inspired, but were inserted
later by Bible translators.
The kingdom of Christ is established at His second coming (Matthew 25:31), and all the righteous of all ages will enter the kingdom only then (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17) and not when they die.
